Giardini Naxos is a truly unique location in many ways. This is the first Greek Settlement in all of Sicily, so you will see traces of both Greek & Sicilian culture. You will also notice the uniqueness of the beaches. Since Giardini Naxos was built upon volcanic rock, there is a distinctive landscape.

There is much to do in Giardini Naxos! We have created a simple list of locations that many Gianni House backpackers have enjoyed while staying in the area.

Attractions

The Beautiful Beaches
Giardini Naxos is bordered completely by beautiful beaches. All beaches are about a 5 minute walk from Gianni House, and you have your preference of type. When you arrive at the main beach road (lungomare), you can head to the left for a more posh touristy scene with beach chairs OR you can veer to the right and visit the calmer, beaches that they locals tend to frequent. The choice is yours!

The Archaeological Area
Giardini's most famous landmark is its Archaeological Area. You can spend an afternoon strolling through this region, viewing ancient ruins from the original Greek Settlers that left their mark centuries ago (734 BC). You will see statues, temples, and many artifacts that have been perfectly preserved. In the sacred area you will even be able to view some graves dating back to the Bronze age. Gianni House is in the OPTIMUM location to view the Archaelogical Area because it is directly behind the hostel.

A Walk Along The Harbor
This is a beautiful tourist area where you can just take in the view and enjoy a nice ice cream from one of the many local shops. You will see local fisherman pulling up with their daily catch, and antique boats lining the shore. An absolute perfect "Photo Op" spot! This is also where many of the Dive Boats depart from.

Norman Castle
Just a short bus ride from Gianni House is the famous Arab - Norman castle that sits high on a mountain. The castle is visible from our rooftop terrace (it appears especially beautiful at night), but must be seen up close to truly enjoy! This attraction allows you the opportunity to view ancient architecture as well as an incredible view of the surrounding area from up above.

Alcantara Gorge
This fascinating gorge was formed from a Mount Etna eruption and you can see the impressive layers of basalt rock once you climb down the gorge (or take the lift). Check our photos and videos to see a full view of this amazing natural landscape.

Down here you can wade into the stream and in between the rocks. You can also study birds and frogs if you like since they thrive amongst all the good food for them here. The water is extremely cold, which may be a bit of a relief during the hot summer months. Be careful of the strong current!

Boat Trip To Isola Bella
Directly behind Gianni House at Recanati Beach, you can experience a boat ride directly to Isola Bella in Taormina at an affordable price. We reccomend this tour for the fun factor. Ask at the reception and we can arrange this for you.

Jeep Ride Through Mount Etna
Prepare for a guided view of the tallest & most active volcano in all of Europe. This is our most popular tour and for good reason! Visiting Mount Etna is the kind of experience that you will always remember! You can also take a bus from the front of Gianni House to the mid point of Mount Etna for a nominal cost If you dont feel like getting up close and personal to Mount Etna, you can always just take advantage of the amazing view of the volcano from our rooftop terrace.

Within very close walking distance to the hostel, the Tropicana nightclub has 2 rooms and 3 dance floors. Somewhat special is the division of Latin lounge that offers 2 different dance floors separated by an area equipped with tables. The musical styles offered in 2 rooms ranging from Latin American to house.

Just a short walk from Gianni House is a nice bar / restaurant where many of our guests sttop at when they prefer a few drinks without the crazy club party scene. The bartender, Salvo is the most hospitable and amusing character in Giardini! He will ensure that you will have a fun time here!
